Pastor Nguyen Cong Chinh | Vietnam

Pastor Nguyen Cong Chinh is an evangelical pastor from the Quang Nam province, and has lived in the Central Highland provinces of Kon Tum and Gia Lai since 1985. He is suffering both physical and psychological abuse in a Vietnamese prison because of his ‘illegal’ (Lutheran) faith and religious liberty advocacy.

He has been arrested numerous times since 2003. In 2004, the government bulldozed his home which also served as a praying place. The government has also refused to issue his household registration and citizen’s identification card, both vital for normal life in Vietnam. On April 28, 2011 he was detained and eventually sentenced in July 2012 to 11 years in prison for ‘undermining national unity.’

He has a wife and four children.

The family has arrived in the United States after the U.S. government granted Pastor Chinh humanitarian parole.
