On September 5, 2019 Fatemeh Bakhteri was charged with ‘propaganda against the system’, and sentenced to one years imprisonment, followed by two-years deprivation of all social activities, membership in political and social groups and associations with Christians.
 
On March 15, 2020, Fatemeh Bakhteri was granted temporary release from Evin prison, where she was serving her sentence, following the outbreak of Covid-19 in Iran’s prison system. On April 12, 2020, she was informed by the prison authorities that she did not have to return to prison, as she had been pardoned for Persian New Year.
